Miss Livingstone - Sylvia Dionne Brown
If I can, I will. If they doubt me I will prove them wrong. If I'm tired, I might slow down but I will not give up. If I speak it then it must be heard. If I put my mind to it, then I will get it done. And, if I die, then my soul will still live long. ~ Sylvia D. Brown
Sylvia Dionne Brown, born April 22, 1987, is the daughter of Craig and Lisa Brown. She has had the pleasure of growing up with both of her parents and four siblings- brother Anthony, and sisters Terri, Evelyn, and Joy. As the second to the youngest, Sylvia possesses her own valuable qualities; as she is uniquely effervescent, outgoing, and inspirational.
She graduated from Mooresville Senior High school located in Mooresville, North Carolina where she currently resides. With great aspirations, Sylvia decided to attend Livingstone College after high school in fall of 2005 along with her older sister, Evelyn, and younger sister Joy. Sylvia chose Livingstone College because she believed Livingstone has many opportunities that would assist her in achieving her aspirations and dreams.
As a Business Administration major at Livingstone College she has taken on many task and decided to participate in many student organizations that are offered on campus. For example, she has committed herself to the Livingstone College Marching Band where she plays flute, alto saxophone and then later decided to challenge herself by learning to play trumpet. As a determined sophomore and junior, she became President of her class. While maintaining a 3.3 GPA, Sylvia also worked part-time at McDonald’s Restaurant. She is also a member of the Livingstone College Concert Choir, which she now serves as Vice President and publicist. She still makes time to participate in SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise). She has worked with the Big Brother/Big Sister and mentored disadvantaged youth within the community. Currently, she a member of Black Development and is the president of Sigma Gamma Rho, Sorority, Inc. at Livingstone College. Along with these things, she also makes times for hobbies: singing, writing spoken word poetry, and sketching.
Community service also plays a major role in Sylvia’s life. Growing up as a child, she and her family regularly visited and sung at the nursing home. She enjoys reading to elementary students, volunteering at Rowan Helping Ministries.
As Sylvia aspires to be and do many great things such as a world renowned entrepreneur, singer, and philanthropist, but more than this she wants to be more than what her friends, family, or even what she expects for herself.
