Miss JCSU - Raechelle Renay Sawyers
Raechelle Renay Sawyers was born to Estelle Vivian Sawyers-Cannon and the late Rayfon L. Bryant in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania along with three other siblings. Raechelle is thankful for her maternal grandmother Maggie E. Sawyers who raised her as a child and has been a catalyst for her spiritual development and academic success.
Raechelle has demonstrated the importance of being a student leader during her academic tenure by being actively involved in her educational experience. She is a 2006 graduate of Harrisburg High School where she was elected sophomore class queen, second runner up for homecoming queen, best dressed and most creative clothing. Raechelle was also a member of the yearbook committee and was on the honor roll all four years of high school.
Raechelle has continued to demonstrate her commitment to education during her studies at Johnson C. Smith University. While at JCSU, Raechelle has been involved in several programs and organizations. From her freshman to senior year, she has participated in the Emerging Leaders Program, served as tutor mentor for Student Support Services, tutor counselor for Upward Bound, Resident Advisor, and Parliamentarian for the Gamma Lambda Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. Raechelle has proven that she can handle and balance the rigors of college life. While being actively involved she has maintained a stellar academic record by being on the Dean’s List for four consecutive years. She is also a member of the Robert L. Albright Honors Program and Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society. Raechelle’s long term goal is to pursue a Master’s degree in Education Administration and eventually become a school principal. Her ultimate goal is to obtain a Ph.D.
In addition to her academic success Raechelle finds time to give back to her community. As a recipient of over sixty-thousand dollars in scholarships, Raechelle understands the concept of giving of herself so that others can progress. While being a student, Raechelle has found the time to help others by volunteering at several elementary schools including; Brun’s Avenue Elementary School, Merry Oaks Elementary School, and as a Kids to College Student Facilitator. Although “Life ain’t been no crystal stair,” With help of God, true friends, and family (especially my grandmother) Raechelle Renay Sawyers, has emerged like a rose who has grown from the concrete… ready to take her place in the garden of Life.
